How To Prepare Your Car For the Fall Season
While animals store food to prepare for the frigid Winters, we car people double check all of our car’s maintenance needs. Why? Fall is the perfect time to get your car in order before the weather changes. The holiday season is getting closer, and fixing your car right now will make for a smooth holiday with no surprise expenses.
Check your wiper blades to prepare for rain and snow.
Wiper blades should be replaced every six months, according to AAA. If you notice that your wipers aren’t clearing the windshield correctly, or if they are making noise when they wipe the windshield, it could be time to replace them. Wipers should also be replaced if they are cracked or peeling; missing a rubber strip; have stretched-out frames, or have worn-down edges.
Check your tires and winterize them if necessary.
Check the tire tread depth by using a penny, or even better, a quarter (if you’re lucky enough to find one). If it’s worn down flat on both sides of Lincoln’s head, you’ll need to get new tires soon! If there is still some of Lincoln's head left but not much, replace them as soon as possible.
If you’re worried about cross-country road trips, you may consider getting some new all-season tires or winterizing your vehicle.
Don’t forget to change the oil!
You've got to change your oil regularly because it lubricates the engine parts and keeps them cool. It also prevents corrosion, which allows your vehicle to run more efficiently and last longer. Changing the oil filter also helps extend the life of your engine by removing contaminants that can build up over time and damage it.
Check those lights.
It’s going to get significantly darker way earlier in the day here soon. Make sure all of your lights are working and clear! Wash away any dirt and grime from the tail light housings. Check that all bulbs are working correctly before driving at night, and ensure that none of the wires are exposed or damaged for either side/back lamp unit.
